Modern Brenda Starr Dolls

Based on a comic book character of the 1930s and 1940s, Brenda Starr as a doll has an interesting history…..

Madame Alexander was the first to create a Brenda Starr doll in the mid-1960s. She was a vinyl doll 14″ tall who did sell well and was discontinued after two years. Perhaps, it is because she did not have the daring and dashing look of an adventurous newspaper woman who traveled the world.

Next was Effanbee who produced a 16″ vinyl version during the late 1990s. (See doll on left in picture below)

In the early 21st century, Robert Tonner purchased the rights to Brenda Starr and created a vinyl/hard plastic Brenda Starr with a Tyler Wentworth style body: jointed arms/legs, painted eyes, rooted hair and a resplendent wardrobe. (See doll on the right in picture)

They are unable to share clothes so if clothes are purchased separately, it is necessary to know which doll it will fit.

More information coming….
